Editorial Standards
Purpose of the catalogue
The UEFFE Public Domain Literature Library exists to make public-domain texts more accessible and engaging by providing editorial context. Each record includes a catalogue note prepared as supplementary catalogue material a first reading and highlight notable narrative features. The catalogue does not claim to be exhaustive or scholarly; it is a reader's companion.
Scope and selection
The library currently holds 100 ebooks, all sourced from Project Gutenberg. Works were selected for their literary interest, historical significance, or representation of diverse genres and periods. Selection is ongoing and reflects the catalogue grouping criteria; no external advisory board is involved.
Source attribution
Every ebook record identifies Project Gutenberg as the source. Where applicable, illustrator, translator, and editor credits are included. The catalogue does not host or modify the original texts.
Bibliographic records
Each record contains the full title, author name(s) with birth and death years, a set of Library of Congress subject headings, a target-reader field, and a URL to the work's page on this site. The subject headings are reproduced from the original source and may not reflect the complete thematic range of the work.
Category assignment
Works are assigned to one of four categories: Exploration Survival Adventure Tales, Fantasy Juvenile Worlds, Technology Airships Imagined Futures, and Historical Social Novels. These categories are organizational tools, not definitive literary judgments. A work may contain elements of multiple categories; the Recommendations and groupings use catalogue metadata, thematic relevance, and collection scope. Category descriptions are written for each group and include a limitation note acknowledging the classification's partial nature.
Editorial reading context
Catalogue notes are produced from a close reading of selected excerpts, not necessarily the entire text. They focus on narrative structure, authorial voice, recurring imagery, and thematic patterns. the catalogue project does not claim to have read every word of every book in full. Notes are written to be useful for a first-time reader.
Edition facts and text measurements
The catalogue does not provide edition facts such as page counts or word counts, as the texts are drawn from Project Gutenberg editions that may vary. No text measurements are included.
Recommendations and related works
Each category guide recommends three books with concrete reasons based on the catalogue note. Related works are not cross-referenced. Recommendations are not automated and reflect the catalogue project's reading priorities.
Corrections and reader reports
Readers may submit corrections or feedback via the contact page. Submitted corrections may be used to update catalogue records. No formal peer review process exists.
Public-domain limitations
All works in this catalogue are in the public domain in their country of origin and in Canada, where the catalogue project is based. Readers outside these jurisdictions should verify local copyright status. The catalogue does not guarantee that every work is free of copyright restrictions worldwide.
Accessibility and readable presentation
The website is designed with semantic HTML and minimal styling to support assistive technologies. Category guides and archive pages use a consistent structure for easy navigation. Images are not used; all content is textual.
Independence and editorial responsibility
The catalogue is edited independently by UEFFE Catalogue, based in Canada. It is not affiliated with any university, library, or commercial entity. Editorial decisions are made solely by the catalogue project. The catalogue does not accept advertisements or sponsored content.
